Second Shoot

For my second shoot I arranged to go back to Dartmoor with Richard Walker again. After the first shoot we both had an idea of my mobility problems. He picked somewhere easier for me to get to. The place he picked was a great location as there were different elements that I was able to photograph. We went to the location for a sunset shoot, we had plenty of time to get set up before the light started to change. I hadn't decided what style of photography would be best for my  project, so I took a lot of photos in different styles to experiment with which images would fit my idea. I am very happy with how the shoot went and the images I took. I didn't look at them until a couple of days later, this was so I could look at them with fresh eyes.

Looking at the images I have taken, I could instantly see one that needed no editing and some others that needed minimal editing, in my eyes. I edited the ones that were the best ones from the shoot. I have been bringing them in for group crits with the guest lecturers. The general consensus is that my emotive images are much stronger than the documentary style images that I have shot. Becky Strong liked my idea for the Final Major Project and suggested that I pair text with my images to help convey the message that I want to get across to the audience. I have started a diary to help with this, I hope that I can use some of my writing for the project. I have also been looking at other sources for text that fits the message that I want to convey to the audience.

This is one of my favourite images from the shoot. It has been edited in post production but only slightly. I increased contrast and adjusted the white balance to create the final image. This has given the image the contrast between the pale, washed out sky and the darker foreground. The dark, twisting bush trunk stands out in the image. I like this image as I feel it represents how I feel most days, alone and at an emotional distance from others. I think that the touch of colour makes the image better than if it were in black and white.

This image is my absolute favourite from the shoot, it conveys the feeling of peace and calm that I wanted to get. I haven't edited this image in any way, which is another reason it is my favourite image. The off shot lighting has made this image an unusual sunset shot which is what I was after.
